Welsh inter-regional CC Champs

INDIVIDUALS SHINE IN THE MUD

The usual crop of withdrawals and non-appearances, especially by seniors, meant that it was left to individuals to take the honours for North Wales at the Welsh inter-regional  championships at Llanelwedd.

And there was plenty to celebrate across the age-groups, from under-13s to over-75s with six individual and one team gold.

In addition there was a healthy haul of medals in the Welsh Masters' championships which were incorporated in the event.

The  golds went to Matthew Willis (Wrex) in the U15 class, Christian Smith (Wrexham) in the U17 race, Iolo Hughes (Menai, U20), Lynne Wright (Wrexham, L45), Chris Birch (Abergele, L65) and Stephen P Jones (Eryri, M60). In the Masters' event Dave Hughes (Prestatyn) also came first.

The North Wales squad won the M50 team gold.

Oliver Barbaresi (Menai), who made Willis work hard for his title, was rewarded with silver, and Esme Hughes (Maldwyn, U13), Mollie Davies (Menai, U17) Eric Campbell (Buckley, M50) and Gordon Jones (Prestatyn, M55) were also second.

Bronze winners included Kate Jerman (Mald, U13), Tomos Roberts (Meirionnydd, SM) and  Dylan Jones (Eryri, M40).

Among medal winners in the Masters' championships were Lynne Wright, Ellie Salisbury (Eryri), Chris Birch, Dylan Jones, Eric Campbell, Gary Blackwell (Deeside), Arthur Egan (Wrexham) and John Tipping (Wrexham).
