DAVIES RETURNS TO FORM IN CARDIFF

Former Commonwealth Games competitor Chris Davies (Telford), who has been dogged by injuries in the past couple of years, showed a welcome return to form in the Cardiff 10k.

He finished 16th overall in 31.14, but it was not enough for Wales to beat the North of England in the inter-regional match.

Katie Parry (Leeds), from Rhyl, was the fourth Welsh lady counter, coming home 89th overall in 36.38, and the Welsh ladies beat the Midland Counties.

The highlight of the race was another amazing performance by super-vet Martin Rees (Les Croupiers), who improved his own world age-group record by 12 seconds to 32.48.

* In the City of Salford 10k the only North Wales athlete was Denbigh's David Baugh (M50) and set a new pb of 40.18.

Ras Fawr Llanddoged

LONGLEY COMES SECOND - AGAIN

Prestatyn's Dean Longley had to settle for second place again this year in the tough 12.5k Ras Fawr Llanddoged - but this time to veteran Darren Blazier, who finished behind him last year.

Longley was one second faster this time but the Abergele veteran improved considerably to take the title.

Last year's lady champion, Helen McArthur, was also faster this time but it was not good enough to catch Eryri's Andrea Rowlands, who is slowly returning to form.

ANOTHER NATIONAL WIN FOR NICOLL

Welshpool's Adele Nicoll added another national title to her collection when she won the shot putt at the England Under 17.20 championships in Bedford.

Her new pb of 13.98 was about two metres further than that of the runner-up.

In the discus the Birchfield athlete took bronze with a throw of 42.81m, about four metres down on her best.

At the same meeting former Wrexham athlete Sion Roberts (Swansea) finished fourth in the semi-final of the U17  100m in a wind-assisted pb of 10.95.

Caernarfon 10k

OWEN AND COLLINS TAKE NW TITLES
