World Mountain Champs

JONES TAKES WORLD BRONZE

Eryri's Nathan Jones helped Great Britain's junior men to team bronze in the World Mountain Running championships in Krynica Zdroz, Poland.

He was the third GB finisher in 14th place overall, just two seconds ahead of his rival Max Wharton but behind Brad Traviss (6th) and Max Nicholls (12th). The gold went to the Czech Republic and silver to Italy.

The GB senior men finished in seventh place, with Uganda claiming the first four individual finishers. Six-times Snowdon race winner Andi Jones was 21st overall, ex-Bangor student Nick Swinburn 63rd and Rob Samuel (Eryri) 70th.

The GB junior ladies had a brilliant outing, taking gold after all all three finished within nine seconds of each other. Annabel Mason was the individual champion.

The senior ladies, meanwhile, also did exceptionally well, finishing second behind Italy, with Emma Clayton second, Sarah Tunstall eighth, Mary Wilkinson 12th and Katie Walshaw 16th.
